Can anyone tell me about black hair care?

I recently started working at a beauty supply store, and I haven’t been to cosmetology school yet so I don’t know very much about black hair care and it’s always hard to answer customers’ questions when they’re asking about African American textured hair.
Can anyone tell me how it’s different than a white/Hispanic/Asian persons hair or how it should be cared for?
Thanks in advance for any answers :)
So much can be said about black hair care that whole book, websites, magazines are dedicated to just that. I recommend that if you really want to know, to get some magazines for african american people and check out the websites. Magazines like Black hair, Essence, etc. If you don’t want to spend money on it, go to their websites and just read up on some of it. If all else fails, have a stylist that is knowledgeable about black hair and have them school you real quick because it is a lot to find out.

Black hair care question : I intentionally underprocessed my relaxer because I did not want bone str8 results?

Instead of leaving it on for 20 min , I left it on for 10 . I did this on purpose because I wanted my hair to be only a LITTLE BIT straight . Will the straightness last until my hair grows out ?

Or because It was under processed , will it become kinky and unmanageable again a short time later?

It depends on what kind of hair you had and what kind of chemicals you used. If you used a box relaxer it will last longer than time for you to relax again but it will eventually go away completely if you don’t apply chemicals for a long time. If you have really thick, coarse hair this affect will go away alot quicker. You can try using some Shea butter. Melt it and put on plastic cap and sit under the dryer like you are processing color. Sometimes we think our hair is worse off than it really is because it is very tangly. Kinky and tangles are two different things. You can manage kinky much easier than tangles. My daughter has Indian hair; but it is very easily tangled. These tangles combined with her African heritage is a nighmare. Conditioning and moisture works best.

Hair care tips for torn-black hair, anyone?

I have a natural black hair that is starting to turn really, really red. It doesn't look like it's dry, on the contrary it turns greasy very easily. I want it to be black-coloured again, is there any hair products/herbs that can help? Note that my scalp is a bit sensitive and can't take just any hair product, otherwise it starts to itch. Thanks!
Torn just means the colour starts to fade.

You can mix some temporary black-dye into your conditioner and it'll keep the color richer. I say temporary because they generally aren't as damaging and don't need to stay on as long (since it'll wash out next time, but also be reapplied next time).

You'll essentially have a home-made version of those "Brilliant Brunette" or "Sheer Blond" shampoos for black hair.

Black Hair Care Products Question?

Why do most black hair care products have petroleum or mineral oil?

I mean like, If we all know it clogs the hair folicles and stunts hair growth and to ignore hair products with the stuff in them…Then why do the manufactures of these items continue to add petroleum and mineral oil?

THEY ARE inexpensive ingredients….and unfortunately the majority of companies…..do not hire the caliber of chemist or pay for levcel of ingredient they need…..
there is a wonderful line that you should try that is owned by a chemist and he doesn't put those ingrdients in the products and they all ROCK….anything you buy from them is wonderful and you can get it many places online
Avlon Industries KERA CARE….

Black Hair Care?

My 12 year old daughter's hair is thinning really badly around the edges. Does anyone have any suggestions or is anyone aware of hair care products (for black hair) to help reverse this problem.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. : )
Note: She currently has a perm and she has worn french braids and pony tails in the past. I try to keep her with a wrap to cover the edges but it seems the thinning is spreading.

First of all …Pllllleeeeassseee STOP perming this Child's hair! Her hair is probably over processed and overworked. A lot of pulling with braids, ponytails will definitely cause breakage and thinning ESPECIALLY around the edges and especially if she uses harsh Gels and doesn't moisturize and deep condition.

I suggest using products made by ORGANIC ROOT STIMULATOR they have an array of products from shampoo to help dry itchy scalp and conditioner for hair loss. And if you must perm…they have perm that is NO LYE (of course it still contains all the harsh chemicals that dry black hair out to begin with) but the formula is the most gentle I've seen.

I also suggest using a homemade deep conditioner that i got from my grandmother : Warm 5 Table spoons of Extra Virgin 100% Pure Olive Oil and 3 Table Spoons of Pure Honey about 35 Seconds in the microwave…massage it onto her scalp and hair and let it sit for about 30 minutes..then rinse. Do this 2 to 3 times a month and her hair should be soft and more manageable and her scalp won't be as dry because the Olive oil is very light but penetrating.

Hope this Helps

Can a person with white girl hair use black girl hair care products?

I have Africa's Best Organic Carrot hair creme will it be ok if I use it…will it still work

yes products weren't made for people there made for hair so just because they put a black face on it doesn't mean you cant use it it just means that's there marketing culture.. feel free to use everything i do hair and i use everything a good product is a good product it doesn't matter to me.. or the hair… lol

Can anyone recommend any good natural black hair care salons in Atlanta, GA?

I'm newly natural and I have no clue what to do with my hair. I wear my hair in an afro from time to time but other than that and braids, I don't know what to do. My former hair stylist only deals with relaxed hair and I stopped going to him a while back when I started to transition. So does anyone know of a good salon in Atlanta where I can go to have my mess of a head taken care of!?! lol Please n' thank you! :)
